Feature Phone Arabic English Vocabulary table test

Hi english-via-computer occasionals who read or bump into this blog,
attached
I downloaded a trial version of DreamweaverCS5.5 to see what my vocabulary sheets looked like in a blackberry. I made a template with narrow columns so that a short sentence and arabic would appear on the tiny Blackberry screen(sample ). I know a lot of students are fascinated by blackberry and iPhone, but whether they would scroll down through the vocab lists on their blackberry, I don't know.

Do you know if it would be easy to add pictures, and maybe voice recordings to such a template? One caveat, though, to keep the narrow columns for Blacberry on the web page, I have to copy and paste the Word 2003 templete into FrontPage 2003 from a Windows XP computer. When I copy and paste the table from my Windows 7 computer, it expands the second column...but leaves the text scrunched together, which is no good for the Blackberry.

I've tried downloading Microsoft's new version of the old FrontPage 2003, Expression Web 4, but it also expands the second column when the table is pasted into it.

Actually, I'm probably just spinning wheels on this Blackberry idea, but it seems since the Univ. givres wifi to students with iPhones and Blackberries, it would be nice to get them to do something "academic" with it instead of just "texting" all the time. But it would take too much time to design the vocabulary sheets really professionally. I thought I might be able to make a start, though, by just copying and pasting from the word vocabulary sheets.

Sorry for the verbiage rubbish. I'll put this on my blog where nobody will read it anyway. http://www.englishviacomputer.blogspot.com

Have a good summer.

Can't paste OK from a Word Table made with 7 into FrontPage 2003

I've tried and tried, but the only way a table with narrow width in the secnod column to stay as is in FrontPage, is to go to my computer running Windows XP and Office 2003, and paste it into Front Page 2003 there. If I do it on my Windows 7 computer, the second column is too wide.

Perhaps this is because Windows 7 and Word 7 is only compatible with their new version of FrontPage, which is now calle "Expression Studio 4."

How to make a vocabulary table in word that you can also put on the web for blackberry or iPhone.

So many students in Saudi Arabia are given a Blackberry or IPhone after they pass their first midterm in the Univ. Preparatory year, that I think English Teachers should start putting stuff on the web that will be easily manipulated on their Blackberries and IPhones. This might, I hope, lead them to do more useful things than the all-Mediterranean sport of "Texting." Youth do it so much that there is a new carpal tunnal syndrome in the thumb from texting.

Anyway, with that as an introduction, here are my notes on how to form a template in word that can then be easily put on FrontPage 2003 and visible on a blackberry.

I downloaded a trial version of DreamweaverCS5.5 in order to take advantage of the feature of being able to view what one's web site looks like in a Blackberry.

It's called Multiscreen, in DreamweaverCS5.5, and you press on the little triangle to see what it will look like. Also click on "inspect" to see it as it will actually be. Here are the different pixel resolutions and what kind of phone they correspond to:

This is a hasty blog, so I have left in where I noted the word at which I wanted to "shrink" the table cells:

Blackberry 320X240 pixel resolution Collocations many scientific

Iphonr 3 480X 320 Collocations Academic

Iphone 4 480 X 800 Collocations thru Synonyms (Collocations will be english, Example sentence will be for blackberry, i.e. to scientific, no, for Iphone, to academic, and Synonyms will be for the Arabic

Then, I made a table. and put in the first words. The new Word Seven has taken out the "Table" menu where you could select table, then go to Edit and copy it in order to paste the table into FrontPage 2003. You just have to "select all" in Word 7 and copy and paste "all" into FrontPage 2003 with Word 7.

As I discovered with DreamweaverCS5.5, FrontPage and any browser allows the cells to enlarge according to the length of the sentences in the cell. I didn't want this to happen because, where I had a definition or a sentence, it would make the cell too large for the Blackberry window. Eventually I found that by going to Format and down to Properties in Front Page when the cells with sentences were selected, I could set the width at 96pt (pixels), which is what Front page said it was and tick the box for "length" and give it, say 200, twice 96, so that the set length would be thus.

You can save it directly into your front page web page, is you have FrontPage server the way we do at KFUPM, or your can save it to your flash drive and then either import it into your front page, or File Transfer Protocol it to whatever web page you can upload to.

Once this done, the copied and pasted word document is OK in FrontPage for the blackberry, and of course for the Iphone, which has a bigger screen.
